Hidden among the limestone karsts of Halong Bay, Trinh Nu Cave is one of the bay’s most poetic and lesser-known natural wonders. Unlike the more crowded caves, Trinh Nu Cave offers a quieter, more emotional experience, with untouched natural beauty and cultural storytelling.

Where Is Trinh Nu Cave Located?
Trinh Nu Cave is located on Bo Hon Island, in the core area of Halong Bay, more than 3 km southeast of Sung Sot Cave. The cave sits near the water’s edge, facing calm sea waters and surrounded by towering limestone formations. Because of its location and conservation status, Trinh Nu Cave is often included on selected extended itineraries that venture further into the bay, away from mass tourism routes.

The Legend Behind Trinh Nu Cave
Trinh Nu Cave is deeply connected to a touching local legend that gives the cave its name.
According to folklore, a beautiful poor fisherwoman was banished to a deserted island after refusing to become a landlord’s concubine, choosing instead to stay faithful to her fisherman lover. She hid in a cave overlooking the sea, waiting for her true love. Sadly, she never left the cave. Villagers later discovered her stone-like figure inside, believing her spirit had merged with the cave itself.
Hearing of her fate, her lover braved the storm to find her, but his boat was destroyed. Stranded on another island, he struck the cliffs to signal her until exhaustion turned him to stone as well. The place where he turned to stone is now the Drum Cave, standing opposite the Trinh Nu Cave, the two lovers forever facing each other across the waves.

What Makes Trinh Nu Cave Special?
Inside the cave, visitors will find:
- Natural stone formations resembling a reclining young woman
- Soft lighting highlighting delicate stalactites and stalagmites
- A serene, uncrowded atmosphere compared to popular caves
The cave is relatively easy to explore, with short walking paths and gentle steps, making it suitable for most travelers.
